The Caribbean region, like many other regions of the world has been populated by migrants over millennia. However, starting from the arrival of the Spaniards in the late 15th century, there was an unmistakable and unprecedented transformation of the the demography, landscape, economy, and the socio-cultural make-up of the region. These changes did not remain in history but they continue to impact societal institutions and attitudes today.
